School Trips and Group Visits
We are always happy to welcome groups to visit to the ice cream parlour.
We offer short talks on how the ice cream is made, accompanied by a trip around the factory. You are welcomed into the factory, and told about the history of the building which has had many uses in its long life, you are able to see where the family used to live and where the horses where kept when it was a coach house. You are also told about the history of ice cream making and how it has changed over the years. We explain at little about our environmental policies, how we source our ingredients, about the different types of milk avilable and how this effects ice cream production, and the importance of locally produced food. We then show you the factory we explain how all the machinery works and give a basic lesson on the science of ice cream making. You are then are then allowed to take a peak in the huge walk in freezer where all the ice cream is stored before being taken to the ice cream parlour to taste the product! The talk usually takes between twenty to forty minutes depending on the ages of the group and how many questions are asked. Visitors are usually taken around the factory by Richard who makes the ice cream, Richard worked for many years in the voluntary sector and as an experienced instructor is good at making the subject interesting and adapting it to suit the age and capabilities of his audience.
The ice cream parlour has a children’s play area and lots of outside space for the children to explore. For school visits we have a large undercover activity area where the children are welcome to eat their packed lunches. If teachers would like to extend the trip then there is a lovely nature trail to explore or we are happy to provide the space and drawing materials for the children to record their visit.
The cost of the talk is £15 for a maximum of 35 people; ice creams are £2.00 per head. If you would like to bring more than one school class then we can accommodate this, by offering a creative activity while the talk is going on and then swapping over. We offer multiple talks at a discounted rate of £12 per talk.
There is room for buses in our car park.
We are happy to offer sessions in either the morning or afternoon.
We can also offer evening slots as this visit is also suitable for Cubs, Scouts, Rainbows, Brownies, or groups of adults such as the W.I.
